16-carboxylic acid methyl ester is commonly known as yohimbine. Its chemical formula is C21H26N2O3 and Mol. Mass is 354.45g/mol. At room temperature it is a white crystalline powder sparingly soluble in water. It is commonly used in medicine for treatment of high blood pressure; it attaches to neurotransmitters (such as norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine) resulting in catecholamine depletion in the body. It has also found applications in arteriosclerosis and angina pectoris.
17-Hydroxy-Yohimban, also known as Yohimbine Hydrochloride. Yohimbine is an odorless; white crystalline powder; scarcely soluble in water; soluble in chloroform and alcohol. The chemical title is 17-hydroxy-yohimban-16- carboxylic acid, methyl ester. Yohimbine works as a weak blocker of alpha-adrenergic receptor. It is used in angina pectoris and arteriosclerosis, and has been used as a mydriatic and local anesthetic and for its supposed aphrodisiac properties. Yohimbine is a therapeutic derivative of the bark of a tree named Corynanthe yohimbine.
